Example: three fertilizers were tested on five plants each, and the final height, in centimeters, was measured. Does any fertilizer make a difference? Change the values to work out your own case.

What each term means
- F Statistic
- The ratio of the variation between groups to the variation within them, each per degree of freedom. Near 1, the means differ as much as chance would explain; well above 1, there is evidence of a difference.
- Between-Group Variation
- The size-weighted sum of the squared distances from each group mean to the grand mean, divided by k − 1, with k groups.
- Within-Group Variation
- The sum of the squared distances from each value to its own group's mean, divided by N − k, with N values in all. It is the noise the differences are compared against.
