Example: a player scores 75% of their penalty kicks. On one kick, what is the chance they score (k = 1)? Change the values to work out your own case.
Step by step
What each term means
- Probability of k
- The probability of getting exactly 'k' in a single Bernoulli trial, where k can be 0 (failure) or 1 (success).
- Probability of Success (p^k)
- The probability of success 'p' raised to the power 'k'. When k = 1 it gives p (success); when k = 0 it gives 1.
- Probability of Failure ((1-p)^(1-k))
- The probability of failure (1-p) raised to the power (1-k). When k = 0 it gives (1-p) (failure); when k = 1 it gives 1.
