Calculate
Example: adult height follows a normal distribution with mean 170 cm and standard deviation 10 cm. What is the density at 185 cm, and what share of people is shorter than that? Change the values to work out your own case.
Step by step
What each term means
- Density Function (f(x))
- The relative likelihood that a continuous random variable takes a specific value 'x'.
- Normalizing Coefficient
- This term makes the total area under the curve equal to 1. It is built from the standard deviation (σ) and 2π.
- Exponential Function
- The heart of the distribution, where 'e' is the base of the natural logarithm. The exponent depends on how far 'x' is from the mean (μ), measured in standard deviations (σ).
