Example: a factory makes 500 parts per shift and wants to inspect 50. Instead of drawing all 50, it draws only the first and then takes one every k. Which parts are picked? Change the values to work out your own case.
Step by step
What each term means
- Sampling Interval (k)
- Every how many units one is taken. A start r is drawn between 1 and k, and the sample is r, r + k, r + 2k, and so on.
- Population Size (N)
- How many units there are on the list, in the queue or on the production line.
- Sample Size (n)
- How many units you want. When N/n isn't whole, the positions are rounded down and the interval varies between ⌊k⌋ and ⌈k⌉.
